Vintage rugs are like denim — they never truly go out of style. There may be some slight design variations that are in demand, but they are here to stay! Whether you are shopping for a true vintage rug or just want a modern rug that is inspired by a vintage style, you can find some amazing pieces in places you least expect it. My ultimate insider tip? Don’t sleep on Etsy!
Shopping Etsy for Vintage Rugs
Etsy is everyone’s favorite marketplace for connecting with talented creatives, and I use it regularly when looking for new home decor items. With Etsy, you gain access to rug vendors from all around the world that will sell to you directly (read: savings!). Like every other shopping platform, you have the option to filter by rug size, rug color(s), and price range, making it easy to narrow down their large selection. If you like the idea of buying a vintage rug but overwhelmed by the options on Etsy, here are some tips to help you filter through all the options.
- Confirm the Size: vintage rugs don’t always come in standard sizes
- Rug color: this will help you eliminate rugs that aren’t in your desired color palette. Remember, the colors will be slightly different in person vs a screen.
- Rug condition: your rug will likely come with some wear, be prepared to clean it and maintain it but don’t spend time looking at rugs that feel overly worn or flat out old.
Before you purchase a rug, it really helps to ask the seller to provide additional pictures of the rug. Ask for close-up photos and videos of the front and back side to gauge color and condition. Keep in mind, overall condition will vary since they’re not new rugs.
If buying a vintage rug online scares you, we totally get it! Etsy isn’t the only place to score a vintage rug. We also love to scour FB Marketplace, estate sales, flea markets and thrift stores for perfectlty worn vintage rugs.
And if all of these options aren’t right for you, a vintage-inspired rug might be a better fit. Read on for more.
My Favorite Vintage Inspired-Resources
If you love the look of vintage but prefer a new rug or don’t have time to wait for the perfect vintage rug to show up, below are my go-to resources for vintage-inspired rugs.
Loloi Rugs
Loloi is well known for they flat-printed rugs and designer collaborations. They offer beautiful vintage-inspired rugs at incredible prices, and a wide range of sizes and weave options. I have a few of their flat printed rugs and they tend to feel more casual, but still offer that same timeless aesthetic to any room. They’re also great for kids.
If you want something that is soft underfoot, check out the Loloi CloudPile rugs. They are very soft and offer the same vintage-inspired look that everyone loves!
Jaipur Living
Jaipur Living also offers a large selection of rugs, including some vintage options! You can find rug designs that range from modern to classic and everything in between! Their rugs are a little more expensive than Loloi, but they are well worth the investment if you want a higher-quality rug with an amazing design. Jaipur currently sells to distributors, but you can purchase through one of their retailers.
So there you have it! When I’m looking for a new rug this is usually where I go to find the perfect piece for my space! I hope you found this post informative. I know first-hand how hard rug shopping is and once you find the one you’ll be so happy!
